  Commissioned Paintings or Drawings

All of my work depends on a personal connection with the horse, I hope to have the opportunity to see your horse and visit with you. This helps my creative process.

Of course this may not always be possible. When personal contact is not an option I would ask to visit with you via telephone about your horse.

Preliminary Work:
My work begins with small preliminary studies. These gestural studies are a key component to the process of creating and developing a compelling composition. I will go over the studies and plans for the artwork with you before beginning the final work. If you are not local I will send the studies in an electronic file. All preliminary studies remain my property. If you want to purchase them there will be an additional cost of $100 per unframed study.

Subjects:
I work from life and photographs to produce my equine drawings and paintings. I prefer to meet you and your horse, spend time with the horse, and personally photograph all the subjects. The photographs taken are my reference materials.

It is not possible in every situation to photograph the subject in person. I will then guide you through the process to provide accurate and clear photos from which I can work. All photos provided by the owner must have been taken by the owner. Because of Copyright Laws I cannot work from a third party’s photographs without their written permission. Often, video footage is helpful to show the horse in 3-dimentional form.

Cost:
Commissions are priced on an individual basis. Pricing a work of art is a complex matter. Pricing is not based on size or medium.

The following is a list of variables taken into consideration in order to provide a fair and reasonable cost quotation. You and I will review them:
• Size of artwork – I enjoy working big or small.
• Subject - I prefer working with one to three horses. So I can keep the composition intimate.
• Medium – oil, pencil, charcoal, mixed media; paper canvas and stretcher. All the materials and suppports I use are archival.
• Number of studies
• Time and travel to take photos
• Your requests

A non-refundable down payment of 25% of the total cost will be required once you have seen and approved the preliminary studies. This covers my materials and time. I prefer to go over the studies in person with you. However, if this is not possible, an electronic file will be sent for approval. The balance of the cost is due when the art is delivered, or prior to its shipment if mailed.

If for any reason you do not want the final work of art you are not required to make the final payment. The art becomes my property to exhibit, sell or reproduce.

Delivery of Art:

All packaging, shipping, and insurance costs, will be yours. Upon receipt of the commission it is important you immediately examine the work carefully, as it may have incurred damage in transit. It can become complicated in proving damage after receipt if left for a period of time.

Installation of Art:
Due to liability concerns, installation of the art is the responsibility of the purchaser.

Copyright:
All original work created and sold by Kit Hall is protected by Copyright Laws. Current purchasers or future owners may not reproduce, or alter the works without express written permission by the artist. If you choose to exhibit the art work for any reason credit must be given to the artist. Images of the art will be kept by the artist and may be used for promotion on the website or in printed materials. The owner will be given credit for having the art in their permanent collection unless requested in writing to remain anonymous. By submitting the final payment you agree to these stipulations.

My paintings and drawings are originals and reflect my unique style and technique. They are one of a kind with no reproductions planned. When you look at your work of art you will know there is no other like it.

Contacting me does not obligate you. Commissioning a work of art needs to be right for you and for me.
